The Historic Buildings Tour begins at 12:45 pm Monday through Friday. (2 hours)
On the 2 hour Historic Buildings of the Loop and Beyond Tour you will see the Rookery building and its spectacular lobby.
The Marquette Building is a perfect example of the First Chicago school of architecture, and there you will learn the role the Chicago River and railroads had in determining Chicago's future. The Monadnock Building in its massive form incorporates both the old and new ways of constructing tall buildings. You can read its windows to see where the old ends and the new begins. As scholars follow the money to understand history, crime, and business you will learn to follow the supports to understand architecture. At the Board of Trade Building you will see the world's largest futures exchange and understand how it was born, why it is here, and learn to read the trader's hands. Our tours reveal some of Chicago's interesting history hiding in its architecture.
